Even as the central government has shown its readiness to extend Pune Metro till Nigdi, it has come to light that the corporate sector is not keen to extend its best foot forward to give a hard push to Pune’s most ambitious Metro project. Despite desperate pleas from the Maha Metro, which is implementing the project, the corporate sector has shied away from “identifying” itself with Metro stations. “We are ready to extend the Pune Metro till Nigdi. For this, we were exploring the possibility of seeking financial help from corporates for two Metro stations between Nigdi and Pimpri. But so far there has been no response,” said Brijesh Dixit, managing director of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation, better known as Maha Metro.

Of the 16.59-km Corridor 1 of Pune Metro from Pimpri to Swargate, which is an elevated section, at least for 10 km – that is till Shivajinagar – it is staring at “stiff competition” from BRTS buses run by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) and local trains run by the Pune division of Central Railways.

Army to introduce para-rowing in CME

Pune: In a first, the Indian army will soon introduce rowing for paraplegic soldiers at the Army Rowing Node (ARN), on the College of Military Engineering (CME) campus.
A senior army officer told TOI on Monday that this decision was made at the recent National Rowing Championship at CME. "We held detailed discussions with the Rowing Federation of India (RFI) on this proposal. RFI has agreed to (the) proposal and will be providing assistance for rowers to train at ARN," the officer said.

उद्योगनगरीत हुडहुडी वाढली

पिंपरी – पिंपरी-चिंचवड औद्योगिक नगरीत थंडीची लाट वाढली आहे. दोन ते तीन दिवसांपासून थंडीत वाढ झाल्याने नागरिकांना चांगलीच हुडहुडी भरली आहे. मागील दोन ते तीन दिवसांपासून शहरातील तापमान 10 ते 15 अंश सेल्सिअसपर्यंत स्थिर आहे. दिवसाही गारठा जाणवत असल्याने थंडी असह्य होवू लागली आहे.

माध्यमिक विभागाचे कामकाज भरकटले

पिंपरी – पिंपरी-चिंचवड महापालिकेच्या माध्यमिक शिक्षण विभागाला पूर्णवेळ शिक्षणाधिकारी मिळत नसल्यामुळे या विभागातील प्रशासकीय कामकाजासह माध्यमिक शाळेतील विद्यार्थ्यांच्या अभ्यासक्रमावर त्याचा परिणाम पडत आहे. गेल्या नऊ वर्षांपासून हे पद रिक्‍त असल्याने प्रशासकीय कामकाज पूर्णपणे भरकटले आहे.

मोकाट कुत्र्यांमुळे चालक हैराण

पिंपरी – मोशी, चिखली, डुडूळगाव परिसरातील मोकाट कुत्र्यांचा उपद्रव वाढल्याने दुचाकीस्वार त्रस्त झाले आहेत.

मोशी येथून भरधाव वेगात जाणाऱ्या वाहनांच्या पाठीमागे मोकाट कुत्रे धावत जात आहेत. त्यामुळे अपघाताची शक्‍यता वाढली आहे. हीच स्थिती देहू-आळंदी रस्त्यावर देखील आहे. रात्रीच्या वेळी फिरण्यासाठी बाहेर पडणाऱ्या नागरिकांना या मोकाट कुत्र्यांचा सामना करावा लागतो. त्यांच्या हल्ल्यामध्ये नागरिक किरकोळ जखमी झाल्याच्याही तक्रारी आहेत.
