Marathi literature fest opens to new chapter today

Under a huge canopy, on the 40-acre Hindustan Antibiotics ground in Sant Tukaramnagar in Pimpri, over 15,000 people are expected to congregate every day for the 89th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan from Friday.

Villagers say, ‘We gave the land, where are our perks?’

TERMING THE flourishing industrial estate of Talegaon phase I ‘a study in conflict’, Datta Padwal, sarpanch of the neighbouring Navlakh Umbre village, says, “The companies, which now employ hundreds of people, have come on land acquired from us, but not a single village youth has found employment there. Although the estate is on the lands of Navlakh Umbre, it is called Talegaon MIDC for no reason.”

MIDC uses innovative methods to acquire land

AFTER HAVING burnt its fingers during previous experiences of land acquisition for industries, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has changed both its attitude and methodology for the ongoing process of acquiring land for the Talegaon phase II industrial region. Bhushan Gagrani chief executive officer (CEO) MIDC said a similar model is being used for acquiring land in Raigad district as well.
