Less than a year ago, political conflict forced the city of Navi Mumbai to exit the race to become one of India's smart cities. This opened the doors for a small city popularly known as Navi Pune to enter the fray. Within months, 35-year-old Pimpri-Chinchwad had secured a spot on the list of designated smart cities.
