City firm develops free software for fire safety

City firm develops free software for fire safety:
Sakaal Times: Civil-Engineering Network System (CENS), a Yerawada based company has devised ‘Agnishastra’, a free online software which can do a real-time assessment of fire-safety gaps in a building.
The software is expected to help residential societies, corporates and civic bodies take better fire prevention measures. The software has taken into consideration factors like height, availability of escape-routes, location, availability of fire-fighting installations and other details.
Speaking to Sakal Times on Monday, director, CENS, Santosh Kolhe said that very often government authorities issued ‘Fire No-Objection’ Certificates without seeing whether the required norms were fulfilled or not. “So many times, people live in buildings which are unsafe and hence our software will help people in understanding where the building lacks in fire-safety,” Kolhe said.
According to Kolhe, the buildings have been categorized as residential, educational, commercial which will make things easy for the common man. “This concept is popular in Germany and other European countries where similar software called ‘CE-FIRE’, developed by our company is being used by residents for fire-safety assessment of their buildings,” Kolhe said.
Kolhe said that his company would conduct preliminarily fire audits of buildings in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area and had approached the civic authorities for the same.
